WEIGHT PULL

Picture
Weight Pull is a fun and exciting sport for you and your dog! This fast growing performance event is perfectly suited to the Amstaff and one in which they often excel.

Weight Pull takes place inside a “chute”, usually on a natural surface. The dogs are properly fitted with a purpose made Weight Pull harness that ensures the comfort and safety of the dogs. The objective of Weight Pull is to see how much weight your dog can pull over the length of the chute within the allocated times (60 seconds). Using the harness the dogs are hooked up to a cart that carries the weights. Each event starts with just the empty cart and the weight then gradually increases at set increments. The handler cannot touch their dog or use any type of bait (for, toys etc) during the pull and so the dog must pull under it own free will, motivated by its own willingness to work and please its owner. This sport creates a strong bond between owner and dog.

The ASTCV has been running a Weight Pull Series and Point Score for a number of years now. Events are open to all breeds and levels of experience. As of 1st January 2015 Weight Pull become an official performance vents under the Australian National Kennel Council and as such dogs can obtain the official titles of Working Weight Pull Dog or Working Weight Pull Dog Excellent.
